Yah Parwon (@YahParwon) is the Advocacy Officer for Medica Liberia, a women rights organization providing access to justice, psychosocial and reproductive health services to survivors of sexual gender-based violence in Liberia. Medica Liberia was a member organization of the Women Land Rights Task Force of Liberia where Parwon worked on mainstreaming gender in the land rights bill. As a women’s rights advocate, Parwon engages local and national leaders to influence the development and implementation of women rights laws and policies, provides legal services to survivors of violence and organizes advocacy campaigns and activities geared toward behaviour change for elimination of gender-based violence. Parwon is also supervising a project on Gender and Security Sector reform, with a focus on operationalizing newly-established gender units within security institutions such as the police, the justice department, drug enforcement, and armed forces in Liberia.

In 2015, Parwon was a Hansen Summer Institute Fellow and 2017 she was a Nobel Women’s Initiative Sister -To-Sister Mentorship Program Fellow. She is a member of the Female Lawyers Association of Liberia, a Member of the Liberia Feminist Forum and the Co-Founder of Rising Youth Mentorship Initiative.
