Maria Abrahamyan is an expert on transitional justice in Armenia. She joined the International Center for Transitional Justice (@the ICTJ) as transitional justice program coordinator for Armenia in 2020.  She has a background in economics and law, as well as extensive grassroots human rights and project management experience in Armenia.

Maria is a gender auditor certified through an International Labour Organization program; a member of the European Women’s Lawyers’ Association; and a founding member of CEDAW Task Force Armenia. The task force includes groups of non-government organizations that track implementation of the United Nations Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women which Armenia ratified in 1993.

Maria has written extensively on human rights issues, specifically gender equality, criminal justice, anti-discrimination and human rights in closed institutions. She was a 2019 Human Rights Advocates fellow at the Institute for the Study of Human Rights at Columbia University in New York.
