Luiza Drummond Veado (@luizaveado) is an independent consultant who specializes in human rights and gender. She is a Brazilian attorney based in New York.

She specializes in multilateralism, development, gender, combating gender-based violence, and SOGIESC issues (sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression and sex characteristics).

She is a former senior Program Officer at Outright International (@OutrightIntl)  working with the United Nations and leading multilateral advocacy efforts. Outright International works with partners around the globe to strengthen the capacity of the LGBTIQ human rights movement, document and amplify human rights violations against LGBTIQ people, and advocate for inclusion and equality.

Previously, she worked for almost two years at the Rapporteurship on Rights of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans and Intersex Persons of the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights. There she developed thematic reports and worked on leading regional cases on LGBTI rights. Prior to this, she was a member of the Human Rights Clinic at the University of Essex and worked at the Inter-American Court on Human Rights, the Center for Justice and International Law and the Minas Gerais State Human Rights Council and its Truth Commission.

Luiza has published academic articles on sexual orientation, gender identity and sex characteristics; trained more than 100 activists and government officials on international and regional non-discrimination standards, with a focus on LGBTIQ rights; and has coordinated an award-winning video campaign on violence against LGBTI persons in the Americas.

She holds an LLM in International Human Rights Law from the University of Essex.
