Biography
Abusrour has an impressive educational background and extensive experience in the field of politics and international studies. She completed her MA in Politics and International Studies from the University of Leeds in the UK. Additionally, she completed a one-year advanced professional program in public policy and public administration at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill in the USA. Amal also participated in the Atkin Fellowship program at the War Studies at King’s College in London, where she conducted a research study.
She has dedicated 23 years to working with national and international organizations in Palestine, operating within various political and social contexts. Since 2014, she has held the position of Director of Programs at the Women’s Centre for Legal Aid and Counselling. During her tenure, she has undertaken extensive advocacy and influencing initiatives. Notably, she represented WCLAC at the Human Rights Council in Geneva through interactive dialogue and presented a shadow report to the CEDAW Committee. Amal has also played a role in developing and submitting numerous reports to UN special procedures.
Prior to her current role, Amal worked as a Program Manager with Oxfam and Head of Programs with Islamic Relief Worldwide. From 2003 to 2005, she served at the Prime Minister's Office, where she coordinated the public administration and civil service within the Reform Program. During this time, she contributed to the development of the organizational structure of Palestinian ministries and the formulation of development plans.
Amal's expertise extends beyond her professional experience. She is a certified gender audit facilitator accredited by the International Labor Organization and a member of the Consultants For Change Program (C4C), which is part of the INTRAC Institute in the UK. Additionally, she is a member of the Adult Education Program with DVV International.
Amal has also made significant contributions to academia, having published key papers on important topics. These include "Palestinian Civil Society: A Time for Action," published by the International Centre for the Study of Reconciliation and Political Violence at King’s College London in March 2009, and "The Effect of Conflict and Militarization on Palestinian Women," published by Greenwood Publishing Group in 2006.
