Biography
Alicia White is an award-winning social entrepreneur, climate justice leader, and environmental innovator dedicated to advancing equitable, community-led solutions to global climate challenges.
She is the Founder of Project Petals, a United Nations Environment Programme–accredited organization working at the intersection of environmental justice, community development, leadership, and climate education. Over the past decade, she has led the transformation of under-resourced communities across New York City by creating sustainable green spaces, expanding access to fresh food, and equipping youth and residents to lead local climate action. She also founded a Youth Builders Program in Uganda, training young people in environmental stewardship and leadership within the agricultural sector.
Alicia’s work addresses the disproportionate impact of climate change on underserved communities, including urban heat exposure, food insecurity, and environmental health disparities. Through a model rooted in community ownership, Project Petals has reached over 100,000 individuals and built a network of youth and community leaders advancing climate resilience.
She is also the Founder and CEO of Blue SKYie, an environmental innovation company that helps organizations integrate sustainable practices and scale climate solutions through technology. Her work bridges grassroots implementation with systems-level change, aligning policy, innovation, and community engagement.
Alicia has contributed to major climate policy efforts, including New York State’s $4.2 billion Environmental Bond Act, advocating for equitable investment in climate resilience. She is a recipient of the Presidential Lifetime Achievement Award and has been recognized as a Crain’s New York Business Notable Leader in Sustainability and Philanthropy. Her work has been featured in national media, and she is a sought-after voice on climate justice, youth leadership, and community-driven environmental solutions.
